Dumont Bar & Grill - Dumont, MN
A pleasant bite and beverage in a town of 70-ish people . . .
While out visting family, the lady and I found ourselves with a few hours sans child. So we saddled up and made our way to the itty bitty town of Dumont, a short skip south of Wheaton, to give the Dumont Bar & Grill a spin
We arrived to a fairly non-descript bunker-ish gray building with an old west false front, and some cheery fall decorations. I always love when places try, and what little they did, did wonders for it's curb appeal
Speaking of curbs . . . the town is in the middle of some kind of massive septic/sewer project that ripped up the streets, and has started repaving and putting in fresh sidewalks and curbs. How is a town with a population of 70 or so people paying for it ? ? ? . . . let's us not bring up Socialism in an overwhelmingly red county *cough cough*
Anywho . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The inside was as clean and sharp as the outside (with the exception of the Men's bathroom which was disgusting), and light came pouring in from the glass door to the party tented patio. We were there right as they opened at 11, so the joint was empty except for a couple of regulars who came in for lunch as we were finishing up, but I'm sure it gets to be quite the hangout evenings and weekends
We were greeted by the bartender, and greeted by silence. No music. They HAD just opened, yeah, but still, weird. Thankfully there was a Touch Tunes, and $5 got us 7 songs, enough to last through lunch. I tried to pick songs that I hoped wouldn't annoy the woman behind the bar . . . Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Dolly . . . some Dolly & Kenny (I miss you, Carlos! *smootch*)
The menu had all your basic bar and grill Sysco standards, and they're serving them quick and with care
We were both impressed with how purty their BLT looked, and the Sour Cream & Chive Wedges (which I've never seen before, so good on them for switching it up) were fried to perfection
I know the bacon was nice on her BLT, because it was excellent on my Bacon Cheeseburger. The burger patty itself was nothing special, but perfectly fine. $10 for a burger and tots; hard to go wrong. I asked for onions, and thankfully they weren't shy with them. The tots again fried to perfection. Somebody knows how to tend a deep fryer back there
They could beef up their NA beer selection (only cans of Busch Light which we were fine toasting with), but there's an alright selection of everything else in bottle and cans (I don't recall seeing any taps, but they had plenty of booze)
