Denver Restaurant Round-up

I ate gooooooood in Denver  Check out some of the other places I hit on my few days there, and way down below a few bonus pics . . .

700 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80203

I'd compare this to Mesa Pizza in Minneapolis, only slicker and less scuzzy.  Same kind of wild swing of toppings.  I had the Big Mac Slice, and it tasted Big Mac-y.  Could have used more burger, but the seasame seeds on the crust really put it over the top.  There's four locations, and it was worthy of a quick relatively cheap nosh

I love a good arcade, and this one fell in my lap, right down the street from my hotel.  I didn't find a ton of cabinets that excited me, but more than enough to satisfy.  I appreciated that it was buy tokens as you go.  Great way to spend an hour

13065 East Briarwood Ave, Centennial, CO 80112
303-792-0310

Down in Centennial, 2 Penguins was touted as a regular stop near our colleagues' offices, and it didn't disappoint.  A cup of their House Green Chili Pork wasn't shy on the green onion, and I especially loved the nicely charred tortilla.  The Pulled Pork Burrito was excellent (from the menu, "Pork slow roasted for 12 hours in-house, wrapped up in a flour tortilla with Anaheim green chiles, cheddar cheese, potato, and house-made refried beans. Smothered in green chile and topped with cheddar cheese.  Garnished with sour cream, avocado, fresh roasted jalapeño, lettuce, and corn pico on the side"), and I especially loved that they included a couple chili toreados.  Part of it made an excellent late night snack

I think we were a table of seven, and every dish I saw laid down looked top notch.  It's a sprawling place with a huge outdoor patio, and there was plenty of shaded seating.  It be a regular stop if I worked near it too

45 N Main St, Brighton, Colorado 80601
303-654-9900

After checking out a job site way up in Brighton, our Denver colleage took us to lunch at a place he's been going to forever.  It's somewhat hidden underneath an behind Main St, and we entered through the alley.  Inside we'll say it's dark and lived in, befitting a joint that's been there nearly forty years

Nothing fancy about the menu.  It's the kind of place you'll find in every town of at least certain size.  Our server's pride shown through when I asked the difference between the Chili Rellenos crispy or soft.  He esposed on the process of making the soft ones, and I had to go with that.  Was an excellent example of the form, and the rest of the combo was about exactly as you'd expect

Address and Phone:  Well, they have a really spiffy website, and it doesn't show their address or phone number, so there you go

My colleagues and I went on a site visit way up in Brighton, and we dropped off the husband off at Wolf and Honey to get some remote work in.  After lunch, they made their way to the airport, and I waited for an Uber to my hotel on Colfax.  Was a nice space.  Maybe a tad to brightly lit for my tastes.  And I was served the worst Gin & Tonic I've ever been served.  Lo0ked like the young lady who made it had to look the recipe up on her phone, and ya get what ya get.  Wouldn't stop me from coming back

Here's them bonus pics.  I stayed an extra night at the Days Inn by Wyndham Denver Downtown.  I wouldn't call it downtown, but only a short walk away, and the Ogden Theater is right across the street.  Maybe indicitive of how the "Newly Renovated" place is operated that they haven't bothered to update their website with current picture of the outside.  I would say you get what you pay for, and I paid for a clean room near downtown.  I was on the abbreviated top/fifth floor, and there was a heck of a view

And the big bear at the Colorado Convention Center . . .
