Country Corner Cafe - Wheaton, MN
I’ve been out to Wheaton sixteen times in the past eight years, and never once had I sat down to eat in town until this week. Not for lack of want or trying, though. There aren't many options in this farm town of 1500 people. So when I saw the Country Corner Cafe open, I had to pop in for lunch
It was just about what I expected. A handful of older locals. No frills, simple diner menu. I'd HOPED for something more made in house, but it appears to be mostly off the Sysco truck. On the upside, it's cheerier than I'd thought from the outside, and you can tell by the holiday decorations, that they do care. They try. They give a damn. Which is nice. And service was polite bordering on friendly to this non-local
I kept things simple. A mug of black coffee (that the waitress refilled twice). Where are you gonna find that for a buck fifty? Went with a cup of the Loaded Baked Potato Soup that was on the Specials Board. It was basically canned soup (somewhere in the realm between Campbell's and Chunky . . . leaning Campbell's) lacking many potato pieces, and was in dire need of seasoning. Salt and pepper on the table easily fixed that
Swiss Mushroom Burger w/ Round Abouts |
Is this a place to go out of your way for? Not in the least. But if you find yourself in the area and need a bite, it's a pleasant enough place
