Schatzi's - Evansville, MN
On the way home from a few days on West Battle Lake, we stopped for a late breakfast. I found Schatzi’s in Evansville [shaht-sees]. Super cute little place, painted with lots of bright yellow and white, fresh flowers in the bathroom. What an excellent find in the middle of “lake country”, in a town of just barely 600 residents, about 20 minutes west of Alexandria
Wife and husband owners, they’re slinging some good old classics (a textbook Denver Omelet and Hash browns), and the occasional twist. Like the Rosti apparently from Switzerland that The Lady had (Hash browns stuffed with Gruyere, onion, and bacon, topped with eggs). Even more so the Unicorn Pancakes that delighted the kiddo to no end.
And when we leaned into the kitchen on our way out to say so, the chef /owner reached under the counter and gave her a little pack of gummy bears. Happy kiddo, Happy parents. We will definitely make a point to hit Schatzi’s when we’re back out that way
