True North Marketplace - Melrose, MN
On the way home from western MN, we stopped at True North Marketplace in Melrose, MN for a takeout road trip lunch. What a great find. What to even call it? Cafe, diner, coffee/tea shop, smoothies, ice cream, desserts, surprisingly large and varied gift shop. Just walking in, I could tell that I'd scored a winner for the lady. As we were leaving, she said something like, “We need to stop here every time we go to my Dad’s farm”. We’ll be back, but I have other new finds to check out. It’s definitely going on the hit list of locally owned places on the route between the TC’s and Alexandria, though
Check out below for food and pics of their expansive interior . . .
The Gopher (Sliced beef, mushroom, onion, green pepper and swiss cheese on ciabatta hoagie. I added mustard). This was fairly stellar. Nice beef with some crisp on it. Would order this again in a heartbeat
Chef Salad (Turkey, ham, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, hardboiled egg and a popover). The lady really dug this
Wild Rice Soup with Chicken. This was very good. Thick, creamy, and not too big chunks of chicken
The kiddo's roached Corndog Nuggets with apple slices. Meh. Over fried and hard. Won't risk it again
And now, peruse a few pics of the sprawling establishment . . .
