Downtown Gyros Subs & More - Shawano, WI

The City of Shawano, about a half hour northwest of Green Bay, from what little I know, is a bustling little town of just over 9k that oddly comes within a quarter mile or so of Shawano Lake, but doesn’t front it at all.  Wisconsin. Outside of a few Mexican restaurants, Italian, and the defacto Americanized Chinese, ethnic options are hard to come by, but if you want a fantastic food/gift store, make sure to hit up The Stock Market 

On a road home the Monday before xmas, at my dad’s suggestion of Downtown Gyros, we called in an order to go, and I’m glad we did

The shining star was their Portabella Cheese Melt (Portabella Melt, Grilled Onion, on Grilled Sourdough Bread.  Would order this again in a heartbeat, even over a hamburger patty.  For all the cheese and butter bread, it still felt light

A close second was their Gyro Grilled Cheese (Gyro Meat & Belle Plaine Cheese). Add grilled onions, and it might have been a toss up.  Straight up Chicago cone I believe, crisped up on the flat-top. The perfectly crisped griddled bread, with a perfect thickness, towed the line of going over the top, but I wouldn’t change it

The kiddo loved their 2 Chicken Strips w/Fries.  Ha, she wasn’t fond of their ketchup or honey mustard, though.  They looked fine for foodservice strips.  My only disappointment is that there wasn’t a fruit cup or applesauce option instead of fries.  Not that she minded; she went to town on the fries

We also tacked on an order of Garlic Cheese Curds (above).  Lightly battered, were nice, and not one of them made it out of the SUV alive

Prices were very reasonable.  An app, kid meal, two large excellent sandwiches, and out the door for $40 before tip counts as reasonable these days.  We will definitely be back when we’re out that way

PS - The font they have for their logo is terrible, especially the G-4-ROS.  They could brighten up the outside a bit too
