Sawatdee Thai - Downtown Minneapolis

Let's start the blog out with one of the first places I considered a Foodie destination (before Foodie was a thing), and formerly my favorite restaurant.  I've been to four of the locations over the past thirty five years, and they're all consistently good.  Yeah, the one that used to be on 4th Street was extra cool.  Oh well

That said, I have to say On's Thai and Bangkok Thai in St. Paul have usurped it as my favorite restaurants in MN.  Sawatdee has some interesting dishes, and I especially like their Walleye Pike Filet with a ginger and bean sauce, but it just can't keep up with the mind blowing number of exotic and authentic dishes at On's and Bangkok

When I went in June before Billy Allen and The Pollies at the 7th St Entry, it had been a few years since I'd been back. Their Thai Style Catfish in red curry was as good as it was thirty years ago, especially when you order it Thai Hot. Crisp lightly breaded with firm flakey fish, not over aromatic

Their Coconut Shrimp though . . . wow, even better than I remember. Stellar.

And a delicious Iced Thai Tea

Sawatdee may not be my favorite anymore, but it still hits the spot, and is worth being in the rotation
