Galloping Ghost Arcade - Brookfield, IL

Belinda Carlisle sang, "Heaven is a Place on Earth" . . .

As a kid of the 80's, Galloping Ghost is a Mecca.  Over a 1,000 arcade and pinball machines in a clausterphobic space that Pac-Man-like, has eaten up it's neighbors as it expanded.  The place is so large and confusing that I never even found the pinball area.  It's kinda like being in submarine.  Long skinny rows of machines packt in, and dark.  And that was during daylight hours

I'm not going to rewrite their story . . . go check out their ABOUT page

It's All-You-Can-Play for $25 a day.  Machines are set to "free" play.  Come in the morning, play 'til your hungry, save your receipt, go out for a bite to eat, maybe take a nap, go see a movie, come back, play for a while, go out to dinner, come back, etc etc.  Make a day of it.  Get a Lifetime Pass and make a life of it

Now, calculating the value of $25 all you can play?  At say a quarter a play, you'd need to play 100 games to get your moneys worth vs feeding machines each time.  Even at 50¢ you're looking at 50 games.  Eh, your debate.  For me it's worth it to play to my heart and wandering eyes' content.  And it's nice to just to try a game for short bit that I wouldn't try if I had to pop a coin in each time, ya know?

I only had just over an hour to play, and spent a chunk of that wandering around tring to find "Gunsmoke".  A hard to find game that I played the hell out of at Hafner's bowling alley on White Bear Avenue back in the day

And I was able to put up some High Scores on a couple of my favorites, "1942" and "1943" . . .

Ah, nostalgia.  Next time I'll have to find a way to shoehorn in more gaming time . . .
