Zollpackhof - Berlin, Germany

A German Beirgarten before Oktoberfest . . . 

We took the excellent and highly recommended Viator "Discover Berlin Half-Day Walking Tour" guided by the fantastic Emma.  She was a gem.  Afterwards, we walked and found our way to the Zollpackhof biergarten for an early dinner

How busy do they get at 3pm on a Tuesday?  Not too busy.  Quite relaxed.  Service-wise especially too relaxed.  We sat up on the patio of the restaurant proper, and our food took excessively long to come out.  Our waitress disappeared entirely (maybe end of shift?), and the other servers didn't seem too arsed to finish us out 

That bit aside, how was the food!?!  I was PLENTY happy.  Would go back in a heartbeat 

I went on the lighter side sorta.  A Mass dark Augustiner to start.  Their tasty silky Chanterelle Cream Soup with fresh bread.  And one of the Specials of the Day, an onion quiche and salad.  Perfect for the afternoon

My parents shared the Bavarian charcuterie plate, and what tastes I had of it were nice.  "Black Forest ham, smoked pork, „Pfefferbeißer“-sausage, Obazda (traditional Bavarian cheese spread), egg, gherkin, Bavarian radish, bread basket and salted butter"

They also shared a "Berlin-style potato soup with Vienna sausages" that was very nice

My sister went with a Caeser Salad that looked the part

One brother ordered a starter of "Mini meatballs with lukewarm potato and cucumber salad, gherkin, Obazda and tarragon mustard, in addition pretzel chips and 2 slices of bread

And one of my brothers ordered to his chagrin, the "Sausage Plate Munich - a Pair of Munich Weißwurst with Händlmaier‘s sweet mustard and oven-fresh pretzel".  This was NOT his jam, but I freaking loved it.  Yeah, it looks like two cadaver penis' in a bowl of hot broth, and I certainly played things up for some discomfort and laughs, but they actually tasted fantastic.  One of the tastiest bites of all we ordered

We weren't there for a dinner meal, but a look at the menu shows among other dishes, a roast pork in beer sauce with potato dumplings, a crispy pork knuckle, braised regional ox cheeks . . . 

So, yeah, lots to like among what we had, and plenty more to look forward to.  I'd gladly go back if I'm ever in Berlin again.  Go check the place out
