Our Place Cafe - Saint Croix Falls, WI

A welcome breakfast find in western Wisconsin . . . 

The Continental Breakfast at our hotel was unsurprisingly grim, so we hightailed it over to Our Place Cafe.  From the outside, a chain-y looking place along Hwy 8.  Inside a warm inviting local joint done up with chicken and rooster decor galore

Staff was friendly all around, and they were ON it.  A teenager was constantly circling to remove dishes and clear/clean tables . . . that's if one of the servers didn't nab it first

Not only was a carafe of black coffee left at the table, but two or three times our server mentioned that if I wanted she'd make me up a to-go cup on our way out.  I've never had that offered at a breakfast joint.  What a nice touch

They have your standard breakfast menu, with varying degrees of success . . . 

The kids waffles were sad.  Of the Leggo My Eggo variety, under toasted, piled with a ton of butter that we had to scrape off, and only one sausage link.  Not the best start.  Can we at least try for the kids?

                                                                             

But the four egg Denver Omelet with hashbrowns and a carb side for only $12.50!?!  Winner.  Both the omelet and hashbrowns were textbook (though the ham was oddly suuuper finely diced), but the pancakes were throwaway.  Literally.  In the same neighborhood as McDonalds.  I had a few bites of one and left the rest to be put in the slop bucket for a local farmer

In the interest of Science, I ordered sides of  sausage and very respectable perfectly cooked bacon for us to share

The Men's bathroom showed true care for their customers.  A baby changing station.  Sharp objects disposal box.  Hand towel dispensers at normal height and a lower one for people in wheelchairs and kids.  A cute hand painted mural to add some cheeriness.  And the Holy Trinity of automatic faucet/soap/towels.  Bravo.  Well done

 

Lastly, am I really going to pick nits about their kids coloring/activity menu?  Yes.  See, the purpose of the coloring/activity menu, is to give kids something to do.  Keep them occupied.  If it entertains them, bonus.  So, as pretty as the pre-colored menu surely is (I like the scene), having it pre-colored defeats the purpose of the coloring/activity menu?  No?  Yes

Anywho . . . we didn't even hit half the things we wanted to do out in that neck of the woods, so I'm sure we'll be back out that way.  Wouldn't hesitate to give Our Place another spin.  We'd just avoid ordering off the Kids Menu
