Taqueria La Herradura - Addison, IL

A MUST stop when back in Chicagoland . . .

I’ve barely scratched the surface of Mexican food in Chicagoland, but I’m not exactly FEELING the need to scratch too hard.  I found a place I love, that’s close to my people.  Boom.  Done

Oh, the exterior and whatnot are a little worse for wear an tear, but that fits right in with a dumpy little area of Addison.  Sure the wacky spaceship lander looking building could use a fresh coat of paint.  Inside it's diner-ish cute, with friendly service, and the food is generally killer.  We always walk out full and happy

The one dish that's proven nigh on impossible for me not to order is their Carne En Su Jugo.  A big bright steaming bowl of steak broth and juices filled with steak, beans, and bacon.  Ganishable with a side of onion, cilantro, radishes, dried chilis, lime squeezes, and a warmer of tortillas.  Mmm!

Carne en su Jugo.  Do yourself a favor and go read the EPIC award worthy piece by a Pigmon on the LTH Forum.  It's a unicorn of study, research, and dedication to a single dish

Seeing as they have a trompo on their sign, and it's operational in the kitchen, I always make sure to order a taco or burrito with Al Pastor

Always looking to try mole, and they have a good one

It's nice having the lady with, because she tends to order dishes I want to try, that I wouldn't necessarily order over other options.  Like the Chile Relleno Platter, or the (terribly pictured above) Huevos Divorciados

We've had the pleasure of our beloved Elmhurst people join us a couple times.  They're fairly gringo, so here's what the Huevos Con Jamón looks like (one is more gringo than the other)

I've made it into Taqueria La Herradura four times now in the past five Chicago trips, and I'm already looking forward my visit next summer . . .
