Mi Mexican - Morris, MN

Mi Mexican saved our lives in Morris . . .

Well, maybe that's hyperbole, but damn, for a college town of 5k people, they sure do have a dearth of restaurants that aren't chains.  Pizza options are disturbingly few.  On a day of protesting fascists for justice and human rights (among a hundred other things), specifically when it comes to non-white males, it was fitting that the best option was a Mexican joint tucked away in a Latio leaning mall

Getting to it's a bit of an experience, though.  Outdoors is straight up Grimsville.  The City Center mall seems to have done nothing towards curb appeal (unless you count the decades old tattered awnings)

Once inside, it perks up some with a bit of color and a Latin0 grocery

Up the stairs you go, brightened with artificial seasonal flowers.  I always love when places try

Feeling a bit like a videogame, Mi Mexico is at the end of the atrium baclony, and ¡Bienvenido!
You're greeted with a splash of color, and inside's an color explosion!  Yeah, it's catalog Mexican restaurant furniture and decorations, but dig it
Warm chips and a carafe of salsa arrived shortly after we were seated, and beverages were quick to arrive.  A kiddie Piña Colada for the kid (a maraschino cherry on top is ALWAYS appreciated), an NA Mango Daquiri for me (tons of flavor and thankfully not too sweet)(Go Bears!), and an Horchata for the lady

I was really torn to go with their Pozole.  Next time.  The Caldo de Mariscos I ordered was delicious.  Nice rich broth, and a variety of head-on and pealed shrimp, mussels, white fish, scallops, krab strips.  All I'm sure previously frozen, but it held up well, and the broth was the star anyways

I also ordered a Pork Tamale, and it was fine, nothing special.  I prefer them to arrive in the husk, and not burried in sauce and cheese.  Can't say I'd recommend them

The lady dove right into her combo with Chili Rellano, Tamale, and Tostada

The only true miss of the day was the Kids Meal Hotdog.  I can't say I'm happy in the first place that this is what she ordered, but even with the OJ (that we weren't given), that's a sad plate for $7

That bum note aside, it was a pleasant lunch in a bright warm atmosphere on a chilly rainy day, and we'd happily visit Mi Mexico again, especially to try their Pozole
