Cafe chock full of bears in Packer Country . . .
Well in all fairness, it may be Packer Country, but the village school (yes, village) mascot is the Bonduel Bears
Somehow this was my first (and second) time at the Hungry Bear. My sister's family have lived in Bonduel for at least twenty five years, and my parents coming on ten, but when I've been out for a visit, there's always tons of people so it's not convienient or economical to go out for breakfast. This trip the lady and I were able to break away for a quiet relaxing breakfast sans rugrat. And on the way out of town, we'd talked up all the bear kitsch so much (especially the huggable stuffed one bigger than her), that the kid wouldn't accept us NOT going as a family

Like I mentioned, bears bears bears bears bears bears bears. The place is like a repository for Goodwill and garage sale bear paraphernalia
Hows the food? You'll be plenty happy in general. It's a completely different animal from the no-frills greasy spoon Hearty Platter Cafe by the highway. Plenty of veg, and presentation is night and day in comparison. Not when it comes to their mug I received. Let's just say chipped faded scuffed, or as some might politely say, "well loved". Still holds coffee though.
They DO sell their Hungry Bear mugs (I assume new unused ones) for $10 . . . maybe the owners could give themselves a discount and replace their old mugs?
Anyways, back to meals . . .
Up top I believe was the Deluxe Omelet + Jalapeno, below the Stuffed Hashbrowns. In the middle sides of bacon and sausage On the second visit we went for a couple of specials. Here I'll note that it's ALWAYS annoying when Specials are posted without listing a price. ALWAYS annoying, and just plain stupid. We shouldn't have to ask, "How much is that?", and I'm sure the servers looooooove having to answer a question that could simply be posted on the board in the first place. But I digress
I wasn't very hungry, so just went with the Potato Pancakes, and they were simple as could be. Enjoyable, and something a bit different in the breakfast genre is welcome. Had a stretchy texture that reminded me a bit of Ethiopian injera. With such a stark uncomplicated plating, would it have killed somebody to take a sec to clean the plate a bit? Wipe off the crumbs? Better they didn't risk somebody inadvertently dying of the minimal effort
The lady went with the Stuffed Potato Pancake, which, true to it's name, was just a potato pancake folded around an omelet. Looks purty enough, with style points for melting a pinch of cheese on top
The kiddo went one of the Kid's & Seniors breakfasts. She does love a sausage patty. And of course eventually discovered the the little play station Yeah, so my propensity towards snark/"pointing out the obvious" aside, if you're in the area heading north, hang a louie at the one stoplight in town. The Hungry Bear is worth hitting up
